Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know what bead to use?
Colors and sizes are truly a "match the hatch" selection process. Depending on what trout or salmon species have recently dropped eggs in your river will generally dictate what color and size bead will be most productiive.
How do I actually run a bead setup?
Measure an 18"-24" section of leader and tie on your hook. Slide your bead down the leader. Tie the other end of your leader to the swivel attached to your mainline. Then "peg" the bead with a silicon bead peg about 2-3" above your hook and trim off the peg ends. Soft bead rigging has a different process, please see manufacturer instructions on the packaging.
What is the best kind of hook to use for fishing beads for steelhead, trout or salmon?
We prefer to use our straight eye Tail Out hooks for fishing beads. We feel that a standard (non snell) knot provides a better hookup ratio.
How do I match hook size to bead size?
The bead you are fishing should roughly fit inside the gap of your hook. Read the suggestions in the product description for sizing recommendations.
